Halospheres: The Extreme Velocity Desktop Toy
Halospheres: The Extreme Velocity Desktop Toy
At over 3600 RPM, Halospheres combines extreme velocity and gravity defying physics to create a spectacular kinetic light display.
Halospheres is an extreme velocity desktop toy. At over 3600 RPM, Halospheres brings lightning-fast speeds and mesmerising halos to your fingertips.
Forged from steel and plated in gold, Halospheres is a real showpiece, generating a vortex of kinetic light effects, driven by just the power of your lungs!
Halospheres is a real showpiece - both moving and when still.
The Halospheres are first cast from stainless steel and then polished to a mirror finish. After which, they are plated with gold for that characteristic halo hue.
The spinning plate is hand cast in concave form from black resin and then highly polished, resulting in a perfect pairing for both performance and aesthetics.
The lightning-fast speed of the Halospheres is result of its unique motion.
As it spins on its centre axis on the concave plate, it also rolls like a wheel, which generates a lift force on one sphere raising it into the air - much like forces at play on a curveball. This is known as the Magnus effect.
This reduced friction together with its high relative mass and angular momentum, allows the Halospheres to accelerate to extreme velocities.
The halo effects themselves are a result of its spherical shape. Each sphere creates a pinpoint light reflection in its mirrored finish from any significant light source in the room - be it light from windows, lamps or flashlights. As it spins at great speed, the pinpoint reflections blend together to our eye, creating its characteristic halo effects.
It takes a bit of practice to get going.
The first step requires a good flick of the fingers to jump-start the Halospheres into spinning in the correct motion.
The next step will take a bit of experimentation to find that sweet-spot of where to aim and angle the pipe. Top Tip: its not all about how hard you blow, but rather using repeated controlled breaths aimed towards the outside of the Halospheres.
Once at speed, a short puff intermittently, and you can keep it spinning on and on. Otherwise it will wind down in about 2-3 minutes.
Playing around with different light sources in different environments will create new and colourful halo combinations. Large, diffuse light sources (like windows), create thicker halo bands, whereas smaller, more focused light sources (like lamps, flashlights, etc) create narrower halo bands. The brighter the source, the brighter, more intense the halo.
Once you hone your skills and find that sweet-spot, you won’t be left with any doubt that you’ve found it. Compete with your friends and family to see who can drive Halospheres the fastest!
Introducing our 50K stretch goal - Halospheres Cool Steel - for brilliant bright light effects!
If we hit the 50K mark, it will become available at every reward tier. You will receive a survey at the end of the campaign where you can elect your color choice, Classic Gold or Cool Steel. If you choose multiple 2 or 4 packs, you can mix and match colors.
Risks and challenges
With a background in industrial design, we have extensive experience with product development and bringing projects like this into reality. Thus we can anticipate well the events required to take products all the way to your door. We have partnered with manufactures and fulfilment providers that we trust, which have a good working relationship with already.
Prior to launching this campaign we took the extra step on confirming all product elements through production ready sampling. This helps reduce the possibility or unforeseen hiccups in the production process.
Should any delays occur, we will be sure to keep our supporters apprised of any such delay and what we doing about it. We take your support seriously and communication is a priority for us.
