MagicDock

About

So I -- like many -- purchased a 2018 iPad Pro (btw this is Steve Warren, CEO), and shortly after purchasing it realized I really wanted a desktop docking station.  So I made a list of what I wanted this docking product to do and started my online search.  Sadly, after weeks of endless online perusal I came to the conclusion that there was no product out there that met my criteria.  In fact, not a single product came close.  I had a list of about 10 things, and I couldn't find a product that checked off more than two of my boxes.  So I created MagicDock.
We really want to empower iPad Pro users and enable them to work easier, quicker, and more like a Pro.  The funds we raise during this campaign will enable us to manufacture MagicDock and get it on your desk quickly, and ensure that we deliver a product to you that will truly enhance your workflow.  We recognize that the iPad Pro is versatile and can be used for everything from creating documents, to spreadsheets, graphic design, illustration, media consumption and recreation, and so much more; so we wanted to create a product that would compliment that versatility, and capture the essence of the iPad Pro's design language.
With MagicDock you can use your iPad Pro like a traditional computer...
...rotate it 90 degrees from landscape to portrait, either for spreadsheets, selfies, apps that only support portrait mode, or even taking notes when you put it down in design mode...
...plus, plug in all of your peripherals to the ports on back so that every time you connect to MagicDock, you're connected to your whole setup just like that.  It's a snap!
Whether you need a large 4K monitor for video output or checking out your latest Photoshop edits, a 3.5mm audio jack for plugging in headphones and doing some audio work, plugging in an external USB device like a hard drive or MIDI station, and of course charging via USB-C, MagicDock has you covered with it's rear facing I/O ports.
MagicDock also enables you to bring your iPad down to desk level for design mode...
...our patent pending MagicGear makes going to from landscape to portrait and back a breeze...
...and of course you have an array of I/O ports on the back of MagicDock for all of your peripherals.  Which by the way keep the cables unseen and out of your way.
To make MagicDock a reality we've been working hard to line up our manufacturing process, and acquiring an all-star team who'll ensure that the product you receive is high-quality and long-lasting.  We know you'll love MagicDock and we can't wait to hear from you once you've received yours!
Design & Prototyping
When I first had the idea for MagicDock I started drawing what was in my head.  As it evolved it became the product that you see now.  It didn't go through many iterations as I had a pretty good idea of how we would want to execute the design.

We explored a number of options, such as having a one arm design rather than two, putting the I/O ports in the front, squaring off the front and back rather than the sides, and many more.  And each prototype taught us more lessons about what we needed to change, alter, remove, and improve on.

We continued to refine our design until we settled on something that we knew our customers would love, but it definitely took a lot of fine tuning and adjusting to get each component working the way we had intended it from the beginning.
However, the exterior didn't change much throughout the development process since we had already named a number of features that we wanted and determined the best solution to implement those before we even began product development.  The interior is where most of the changes took place, such as the MagicGear (90 degree rotational mechanism,...

Thank you for taking the time to take a look at our journey...
